About TAAA...
The Tucson Amateur Astronomy Association (TAAA) is an organization made up
of people of all ages and expertise levels who explore, observe, and learn about the
night sky, and who enjoy sharing and expanding upon their knowledge.
General meetings have interesting professional astronomers as speakers,
and beginners' sessions that help us all learn more about observing.
Our
monthly meetings are free and open to the public.
As amateur astronomers, we love to look at or observe the night sky.
Frequent observing sessions or "star parties"
are scheduled each month at dark sites. Our members also organize the annual
Grand Canyon Star Party, which lasts over a week and
introduces hundreds of Canyon visitors to astronomy on both the North and South
Rims.
TAAA Special Interest Groups, or "SIGs", are a great meeting place for those
who want to share their talents in astrophotography or other topics. The
Beginners' SIG provides camaraderie, knowledge and guidance to those new to amateur
astronomy.
The club has a large outreach effort manned entirely by member volunteers, and
we provide free star parties to schools, Boy Scout and Girl Scout groups,
fundraisers such as the Telescopes For Telethons (T4T) yearly event, and
other civic and educational organizations. TAAA also provides star parties
for non-public conferences, meetings and companies for a fee.
Interested? Do you also share a love of observing planets, stars, galaxies,
nebulae, and everything cosmological? Anyone who lives in or near Tucson who is
interested in astronomy may join TAAA. Our members vary
in expertise from beginner to professional, and there are nearly 400 of us.
If you're new to astronomy and
want to learn how to use a telescope, or would like to learn more before you buy
your first telescope, our members are glad to help you. You don't need a
telescope to join! If you've been an amateur astronomer for years and are
new to the Tucson area, you'll also find plenty for you in TAAA. As a member
you'll receive the TAAA newsletter and be eligible for many club benefits.
